In fact, curing an incurable disease, a pauper becoming rich, or fulfilling various earnest wishes are not miracles in the true sense of the word. Although they are seemingly miraculous events, these things quickly revert to their hopeless original state once achieved.
Even if you vow that you will live every day of your life with gratitude once you regain your health, once the pain disappears, you will be grateful for about two or three days and then discover something to be annoyed about. No matter how rich you become in the eyes of others, you cannot buy everything you actually want, so in reality, it can be said that there is not a single truly wealthy person in the world. This is because the things you want are constantly and ceaselessly updated in real-time.
Thus, humans are foolish beings who crave such vain things in the name of miracles. We are weak fools who, unable to resist eating what we should not eat, are rendered helpless and, in the end, recklessly close our eyes and just do it. And then, even if we try to self-hypnotize ourselves for rationalization, we struggle with the unforgettable lightness of being and eventually end up continuing to eat only what we should not eat, becoming incorrigible. We are fools who do not know that all problems originated from eating the forbidden fruit that we should not have eaten in the first place.
In reality, a miracle is this: it is when I alone do not desire the forbidden fruit that everyone else eats. It is when that which is impossible for weak humans becomes possible—that is a true miracle.
In that sense, praying to achieve something by putting in physical labor or spending some money is shamanism, regardless of whether it is in a church, temple, or fortune-telling house. Only praying to be freed from the desire for those things is a prayer worthy of the Creator, a prayer that calls forth miracles.
When that miracle is achieved, paradoxically, every moment, everything becomes a gift from God. You are grateful that you are allowed to live, even though you could have died, and you are grateful that you have things that you did not need to have. And you share the things you are grateful for with others. You lose interest in thrilling forbidden fruits that are eaten in secret and ruin your life. You become neither subjugated nor bound to anyone or anything. You have nothing to fear except the Creator alone. When that miracle is achieved.
