– Everyone has a messy underside, but we don’t show it to others, nor do we try to see it in them.
– The more you talk, the more your underside is revealed, and the more enemies you make—so silence is golden.
– You need to maintain an appropriate persona to improve your mental health and achieve success.
In other words, if you’re unlucky enough to expose your underside, you’re done for. But as long as it stays hidden, you can package yourself in a way that fools people, allowing you to exploit various benefits and achieve what’s called “success.” So, keep your mouth shut, wear your mask well, and never let anyone see what’s underneath. Even when you should speak the truth, compromise with silence to avoid creating enemies who might hinder your success. This is the wisdom of death, a guide to the path leading to hell.
A person must live to become a being who can proudly reveal their underside, transparently and without shame, shedding the pretense and mask of a persona. The saying, “I can look up at the sky without a trace of shame,” doesn’t refer to the persona you show on the surface but to the deepest parts of your heart. A life where you can live openly, with even the deepest corners of your heart revealed to the world in real-time—that is true success.
In the song Sweet Thing by Brown Eyed Soul, Dynamic Duo, and Epik High, there’s a verse that goes:
Even if you drive a nice car and fill your wallet,
Even if you shave your wide jaw and raise your flat nose,
Even if you learn all the knowledge that promises success,
You can never fill the empty void in your heart, yo.
I need a straight attitude toward life,
A sharp piece of divine advice to wake my sleeping self,
Sweeter than temptation, fresher than a first kiss,
Sweet thing.
The sweetest thing in the world, the Sweet Thing, can only be felt by those who live without hiding filth in their underside. What joy is there in gaining the whole world while clutching the secrets of your underside, which would bring ruin if exposed? Until about two and a half years ago, I too hid all sorts of excrement in the depths of my being, pretending to be a decent person. But in the end, I realized that only a life without a mask, where I clean out and tend to that underside every day, has any real meaning.
